I've felt like that a lot. It's paradoxical. You go to university to learn and expand your world, but you feel so bogged down by assigned work that you don't have time to read and study the things you're interested in. Teaching's like that, too. It's hard to follow your passion when you're grading comp I papers. Our problems could be solved either by being independently wealthy or by finding a patron. Neither are very likely for me.
I'm hoping that taking this next semester off will motivate me enough to think and read for myself as much as I can, but not so much that I don't want to go back to school to read and think for other people.
